Chris Salvatore's "Breathe Me feat. Alius" - Single Review

When actor/model Chris Salvatore isn't starring in sequels to the gay-geared, Q. Allan Brocka-directed Eating Out series, the 30-year-old is furthering his career in the music industry by releasing original material and commendable covers. For his first original offering since 2013s passable "I Want Your Sex", the independent artist seems to have been inspired by the work of Nick Jonas given the direction of "Breathe Me", a sexy, electro-pop jam featuring the production work of Australian-native Alius.

"Breathe Me" is a dancefloor-charged, invigorating new release that showcases an intriguing change of sound for the artist. The finished product has an overall sense of experience and polish, a step up from previous single releases. With Salvatore's seductively low vocal performance at the forefront, the delivery is only heightened by infectious, sleuthing production reminiscent of Jonas' most recent "Levels". The two tracks sound like they could be distant recording studio cousins.

Underneath the energetic and electrifying beats from Alius, sexual undertones buried within the songwriting are a reason for the single's true power. Salvatore sounds intense and on the hunt as he works to quench the burning desire within his heart... and loins...by finding the one who has hypnotized him with their gaze. "Breathe me, like you're running, running, running, running, feel me, keep me coming, coming, coming, coming, take me, like I'm the only one, I want you to," he sings on the repetitive yet effective chorus.

The dark and slightly sinister vibe of "Breathe Me" adds to its mysterious, sensual charm. The layered, dance-driven production is a solid complement to Salvatore's ever-improving vocals and even though the production is a main highlight of the recently released song, it never takes away from the artist's ability to effortlessly glide across the club-ready anthem. There's an alluring quality to the provocative release, a quality Salvatore's devoted fans will appreciate.

Though constructed along a predominant electronic dance formula, the added funk and R&B inspirations of "Breathe Me" keep things interesting. We've heard what Salvatore was vocally capable of on past releases such as "What You Mean To Me" and "Hurricane", but those subtle ballad influences and the dance/pop sound of his The Sound of This Beat collection seem to be coming together rather nicely for an exciting, radio-ready new single.
